Are you ready for the new TSA rules?

Are you ready for the new TSA rules?”

TSA has implemented new carry-on baggage security screening procedures at Tucson International Airport and seven other airports in Arizona.

The new procedures, which were announced earlier this year, require travelers to place all electronics larger than a cellphone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes.

The added step allows Transportation Security Administration agents to scan carry-on bags more easily, according to a TSA news release.

The new rules help screeners get an accurate X-ray view of electronic items to thwart an evolving terrorist threat, TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers said during a demonstration at the airport on Tuesday. This is going to lengthen the amount of recommended time passengers need to check in before their flights, likely at least an hour and a half and for some airlines, up to 3 hours before take-off.

"Whether you're flying to, from or within the United States, TSA is committed to raising the baseline for aviation security by strengthening the overall security of our commercial aviation network to keep flying as a safe option for everyone", said TSA Acting Administrator Huban A. Gowadia.

The objects can be placed in the same bin as long as they aren't covering one another. It does not apply to TSA Pre-Check passengers.

There is no current requirement that passengers be able to power up their devices as part of the screening process, Dankers said.

Coming soon, is the ban on electronic devices being allowed to travel in checked-in luggage.
