Brexit is stupidest thing any country has done besides Trump — Michael Bloomberg

Brexit is stupidest thing any country has done besides Trump — Michael Bloomberg”

"It was not a smart thing to do and getting out of it is going to be very hard and is going to be very painful".

He said: "My experience is that if you want to get decent coverage from the media you have to have number one; an impeccable reputation as always being honest with them".

However, his comments at events in MA and France, which emerged on the same day as the launch of the new headquarters, suggested he had regrets investing money in the City, as Britain prepares to leave the European Union and give up its membership of the single market.

According to the Guardian, Bloomberg made the comments at a HUBweek conference two weeks ago, which he repeated at an event in France on Monday.

London mayor Sadiq Khan attended the opening with Bloomberg. I've had some thoughts that maybe I wouldn't have, but we are there, we are going to be very happy. It will hurt industries.

Michael R. Bloomberg said: "Our new building aims to empower our employees so that we can better serve our customers, while complementing and adding new life to this historic neighborhood".

Bloomberg followed that up by saying that it was "really hard for him to understand why for a country that was doing so well wanted to ruin it".

The new building includes 1.1m sq ft of office and retail space over 1.3 ha in the heart of the capital. Battling back immigration myths that helped fuel the fervor that propelled the vote, Bloomberg argued that most immigrants to the United Kingdom "came from Poland" and that the United Kingdom "did not have an immigration problem" because they "have the English Channel, which gives them control of their borders". "We are very optimistic about London's future and we are really excited to be a part of it".

However, at the London unveiling of the headquarters, Bloomberg, who is worth an estimated $47.5bn (£36.2bn) said his company was "strongly committed to London". Bloomberg was mayor of NY between 2002 and 2013 before reassuming his position as chief executive of Bloomberg.

The Bloomberg CEO said Britain had chosen to "ruin itself" in comments made earlier this month.

He added: "They didn't have an immigration problem and they didn't need control of their borders".

Clad in almost 10,000 tonnes of English sandstone and bronze, the massive Bloomberg HQ mitigates its size by carving out a public pedestrian arcade between its two buildings, while bronze fins give the buildings human scale and also allow for natural ventilation and protection from solar gain.

Bloomberg said London was the centre of Europe but warned that was "not going to be as true any more" due to Brexit.
