Cross-country woman biker Sana Iqbal dies in auto accident in Hyderabad”

Activist Sana Iqbal from Hyderabad who campaigned on her bike against depression and suicide died in a vehicle accident on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday. "In the impact, Sana, who was in the passenger's seat, suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot", he said. "It was not a head-on collision", said Narsingi Police Inspector GV Ramana Goud. Although the cause of the accident is still not known at this point of time, it is claimed Sana was declared dead at the hospital.

Sana in the message had reportedly stated that her husband or in-laws should be held responsible in case she died of heart attack or brain stroke. It was the pathetic attitude of the police that led to her death, said the biker's mother.

An email sent by Sana Iqbal to her friends detailing how she was being tortured by her husband has gone viral after her death. After tension escalated, Sana moved back to her mother's house. The police admitted that Sana had lodged a complaint and the couple was counseled after that. Every day was a torture for her. Earlier in 2016, Sana took up a 38,000 kms solo-ride across the country on her Royal Enfield Bullet Electra motorcycle to create awareness on a cause she believed in and fought against. The expedition was carried out to raise awareness about suicide and depression. Under the banner "suicide is NOT the solution", she started her trip from Goa in November 2015 and completed her noble quest on 13 June 2016. The post reads: "While I was on my ride and studying about Suicide statistics, I had realized that the ratio of men committing suicide is three times more when compared to women".

In fact, in one of her last posts on Facebook on Monday, it was on fighting against suicide that she spoke about. Gender equality can not be attained by placing women over men.
