India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: Bowling coach backs wrist spin duo

India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: Bowling coach backs wrist spin duo”

Meanwhile, New Zealand batsman Tom Latham who unsettled the Indian bowlers with his cross-batted shots in the first ODI credited the warm-up matches for his sparkling knock in Mumbai.

New Zealand had a lengthy break after the Champions Trophy, a period that they used not only to get into better shape but to polish their game in order to make quick adjustments to the conditions.

India and New Zealand have faced each other in 98 ODIs, with the former winning 49.

Past year they lost the decider in Visakhapatnam to go down 3-2, mirroring the final scores in 1995 and 1999.

After having won the last six series played at home, India is now in a dire situation.

What time does India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI match start? "So, it's not a position which is unfamiliar to me".

"So, we knew a little bit how India played and watching them against the Australian team, we did a lot of work in terms of spin and playing in the middle. It is nice that I adapted quickly", said the left-handed batsman. It was nice to have those two warm-up games beforehand and contribute in those games and start against spin. Coming in the middle when the ball is little bit softer and playing a bit more spin.

Black Caps batsman Tom Latham played an aggressive innings to score 103 not out at No 5 in the order.

Numerous tours to India for national team and stints with IPL franchise certainly came in handy for the 33-year-old.

Latham had made his worldwide debut at 19, but was shuffled up and down the order initially. Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah have been exceptional in limited-overs.

Latham, who was named man of the match, said it had been hard to keep wicket for 50 overs and then bat for so long in Mumbai's humidity of 70 percent plus. The guys had a winter off and have had a few months to build their strength and fitness make-ups. Even in favourable batting conditions, that's exceptional form.

Using his familiarity of conditions from the India tour a year ago, Latham, who has also been in India with New Zealand A in the past, used the sweep and reverse sweeps effectively on Sunday, since his role had changed from seeing off the new ball to batting against the older and softer ball. We have taken a good look at the videos, how they played the sweep and things like this. I probably find it easier doing that than hitting down the ground. "It's important to have different game plans for different conditions and try and stick to that", he added.

New Zealand rarely go into an away series without a gameplan.
