NAB team probing Sharif's properties returns from London with 'partial success'

The daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz will leave Lahore for Islamabad to appear before the Accountability Court, which has summoned her on October 26 in a corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Court (NAB).

Sharif, 67, was re-elected as the party chief earlier this month after he stepped down as the president of his party following a decision of disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28 in the Panama Papers case.

The petitioner pointed out to the court that Sharif was disqualified as a member of the National Assembly through a verdict of the Supreme Court.

The accountability court in Islamabad will resume hearing references against the former premier on Thursday.

The ousted premier through his representative also pleaded the IHC to declare the NAB court's ruling as unlawful, besides consolidation of three graft references.

It is apropos to mention here that the reference relates to the Avenfield properties (flats 16, 16-A, 17 and 17-A Avenfield House, Park Lane, London, United Kingdom).

Giving the example of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharjeel Memon's comments on his arrest that Nawaz's son-in-law is given bail by a trial court but he isn't, Chaudhry commented that a commoner feels that the Sharif family is given preferential treatment after hearing such things.

Also, the three-time PM has prayed the court to suspend proceedings before the accountability court till the framing of the joint charge.

The date of return from London was changed a day after Maryam Nawaz posted a message on Twitter, stating that her mother Kulsoom Nawaz has been re-admitted to the hospital.

According to the charge-sheet in Azizia Steel Mills reference case, Nawaz failed to justify sources of his assets, and that he established nameless assets against the names of his children with the help of absconding offenders.
