Breast Cancer in Men Diagnosed Late due to Low Awareness

Breast Cancer in Men Diagnosed Late due to Low Awareness”

Breast Cancer in the United Kingdom - which highlights how much more needs to be done to save the lives of people with breast cancer.

Specialist registrar in breast surgery Dr Beatrix Elsberger said: "Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a good opportunity to remind people how important it is to be breast aware, not just in October but every month".

The group says women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing invasive breast cancer in their lifetimes.

According to the American Cancer Society, over 3.1 million women in the USA have breast cancer. About 1% of all USA breast cancer cases appear in males.

This is part of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it coincides with the restaurant's other month-long fundraising effort, called 'Stomping Out Breast Cancer.' The proceeds for that charity will go toward the local American Cancer Society. "And certainly less than if we were to do traditional whole breast radiation".

Many breast cancers have no noticeable symptoms at all, which is why screening is so important. "There is no sure way to prevent breast cancer, so it is important for women with disabilities to be their own advocate, be an active participant in their healthcare and get regular screenings". Men should also be aware of their family history when it comes to breast cancer, as 15-20% of male breast cancers are associated with a positive family history.

Some breast cancers do present warning signs. Although 80% of breast lumps are benign, they should always be checked out by a doctor.

The report uncovered a number of issues that need to be addressed in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. During the self-examination, men must carefully observe their chest and look for any distortion or lumps.

Dr. Macdermed told 22News the general order a patient is treated begins with surgery, followed by chemotherapy, and ending with radiation.

Younger women should get to know their breasts as well, as younger women are more likely to present with these changes because they have not yet started to undergo screening, and over 10,000 breast cancers each year are diagnosed in women less than 40 years old, most of which have not yet started undergoing mammography screening. A health care professional will check for lumps or other physical changes in the breast that may need to be investigated. "Early detection can save lives", concluded Dr.Sabiha Sabyasachi.
