Jurich accused of 'bullying' in scathing Louisville termination letter

Jurich accused of 'bullying' in scathing Louisville termination letter”

The University of Louisville on Tuesday released the scathing termination letter that interim president Greg Postel sent recently fired athletics director Tom Jurich last week, accusing Jurich of "significant and habitual dereliction of duties" and demonstrating behavior "best described as intimidation and bullying". "Ultimately there would be a lawsuit filed for breach of contract if, between now and then, the university does not make us a satisfactory offer".

Any remnants of a bridge that had escaped untouched after the board's vote have been torched to hell when Postel's letter went public, and that opened up Jurich and his lawyers to come full throttle at the university.

Sheryl Snyder on Wednesday afternoon addressed a gathering of reporters at a downtown Louisville law firm, insisting that the fired UofL athletic director did not oversee a culture of non-compliance and he will be seeking a settlement from the University.

The Oct. 20 letter was meant to be an explanation from Louisville as to exactly why Jurich would be fired with cause and not allowed to collect the remaining money on his contract. "The gratuitous allegation that Tom is a bully is simply over the top and not true".

The letter, dated October 20, 2017, came two days after the Board of Trustees voted to fire Jurich with cause in the wake of the FBI college corruption investigation that also led to the firing of men's basketball coach Rick Pitino and one of his assistants.

Terry Meiner of WHAS spoke with Jurich after the letter was released and gave an interview on the conversation, saying that the former Louisville AD was "completely stunned" and confused by Postel's bullying remarks, claiming that he's continued to receive positive feedback from current Cardinals coaches even after his official firing.

Postel's October 20 letter slammed Jurich, claiming he failed his athletic director duties and bullied senior leadership.

Postel wrote that Jurich entered such agreements "with the intent of concealing them from campus or public knowledge" and without the board approval of the university or the UofL Athletics Association, which constituted "repeated breaches of your fiduciary duty". "They have caused substantial damage to both ULAA and to the university".

"The contracts were clearly subject to the open records act and were, in fact, widely published in local and national news media", read the statement. He said he will land on his feet when the truth comes out.

Under the termination details Postel outlined in the letter, Jurich was sacked for cause and asked to forfeit all unearned and unvested compensation, benefits and other incentives promised in his employee contract.

Gunnell, who declined to say what Jurich pays Boxcar, said he made the switch out of loyalty to Jurich.
