New Jersey State Trooper steps in to save choking man at restaurant”

An off-duty New Jersey State Police rushed to rescue a man choking in a restaurant Sunday.

- An off-duty trooper was enjoying his day off before he ended up saving the life of another man.

A New Jersey State Police trooper is being hailed a hero after he saved a choking man while off duty last weekend.

'Recognizing that the man was choking, he immediately began the Heimlich Maneuver, ' police said on Facebook.

Police said that the man was then able to resume breathing and his skin tone - which had changed during the traumatic incident - had returned to its natural color.

"Trooper Palaia quickly wrapped his arms around the man's waist and provided four abdominal thrusts, which cleared his airway", state police said. The man appears to begin breathing again as Trooper Palaia helps him sit back down into his seat. Besides a sore throat and sore ribs, the man was okay and made a full recovery after the episode all thanks to the quick actions of Trooper Palaia.
