New security screenings for passengers on US-bound flights: 10 facts”

A spokesman for the department said: "We work closely with all our global partners to keep aviation security under constant review, but for obvious reasons we do not comment on specifics".

Lisa Farbstein, spokeswoman for the US Transportation Security Administration, said the controls would apply to approximately 2,100 flights arriving daily to America.

Emirates said in a statement it would begin doing "pre-screening interviews" at its check-in counters for passengers flying out of Dubai and at boarding gates for transit and transfer fliers.

It is believed some passengers will be handed a form to fill out, while others face being quizzed by airline employees. Airlines had until late July to expand explosive trace detection testing. Kelly said told reporters in June.

"We advise all customers travelling on our flights to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure". "It's just inconvenient for the passengers", President and Chief Operating Officer Walter Cho told Reuters in Taipei.

Lufthansa Group, which includes Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Eurowings and several other airlines, said: "In addition to the controls of electronic devices already introduced, travellers to the US might now also face short interviews at check-in, document check or (their) gate".

"Further details will be shared with our passengers prior to departure".

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific said it had suspended self-drop baggage services and that passengers heading to the U.S. "will be subject to a short security interview" when checking their luggage.

"In addition to the controls of electronic devices already introduced, travelers to the U.S. might now also face short interviews at check-in, document check or gate", Lufthansa said in a statement.

The Department of Homeland Security is about to roll out new, heightened security measures that will impact the 2,000 flights and 325,000 travelers who arrive in the USA from foreign countries every day. "Airline ticket agents aren't always the best at conducting security measures".

"Unilateral actions taken by individual governments reacting to emerging threats may result in unnecessary disruption or lead to unintended safety consequences", said the members.

"The risk is other countries make similar demands", AAPA Director General Andrew Herdman said. Some of those new requirements take effect this week as well. She also said it would include "heightened screening of personal electronic devices" and stricter security procedures around planes and in airport terminals.
