The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a 1000-page chargesheet in a special court in Mumbai against controversial preacher Zakir Naik for allegedly inciting youth for terror activities and giving hate speeches. The NIA had booked him under Section 153 A (communal disharmony) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on November 19 past year.

Simultaneously, the Central government had declared the Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), launched by him as an "unlawful association". Zakir Naik had transferred funds from his Dubai account to his Non-Resident External Rupee Account, which in turn was transferred it to his business partners and other family members.

The chargesheet 85 witness statements made under Section 161 in the Code Of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The NIA has been looking for Naik since a year ago accusing him of encouraging and aiding his followers through his public speeches, lectures and talks, to promote on grounds of religion, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will between different religious communities and groups.

The absconding Islamic televangelist has already been declared a "proclaimed offender" by a special court.

Indian government through NIA will submit a request for his extradition from Malaysia and Saudi Arabia net week.

Naik has delivered over 1500 public lectures/talks in India and overseas.

The NIA has claimed that Naik has been promoting enmity between different religious groups in India through his public speeches and lectures, and inciting young Muslims in India and overseas to get involved in unlawful and terrorist activities.

"Credible information has revealed that Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik, s/o Abdul Karim Naik, the president of IRF, and his associates have been promoting enmity and hatred between different religious groups in India through his public speeches and lectures on various platforms, and inciting Muslim youth and terrorists in India and overseas to commit unlawful activities and terrorist acts".
