TESLA fires hundreds - is Buffalo affected?

TESLA fires hundreds - is Buffalo affected?”

Ortiz was one of several employees who previously filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board, over a confidentiality agreement workers were made to sign last November. I hate to think that I was targeted because of it.

The union has been trying for years to organize the factory, where roughly 10,000 of Tesla's 33,000 employees work.

An estimated 1,200 employees have been let go. Duarte's attorney claims Tesla used performance reviews as a cover for company-instituted layoffs so it would not have to provide 60 days of notice to terminate 50 or more employees.

The mass firing taking place at Tesla has reportedly spread into the solar-side of its business, with former and current SolarCity employees citing surprise dismissals taking place across US offices.

"I worked hard for this company for five years, sometimes 72 hours a week - and never had any performance-related complaints", said Mike Williams, who the UAW says was sacked for "performance issues" and being a bad influence on coworkers. "I always felt this was a worthy fight".

"I've worked in auto manufacturing my whole life", Ortiz said.

He added: "I do not believe - not for a second - that I was sacked for cause". A spokesperson did tell the San Jose Mercury News that "no one at Tesla has ever or will ever have any action taken against them based on their feelings on unionization".

Tesla, which has been under fire by UAW organizers and resisting allegations to date, is accused of "intimidating and harassing employees, terminating a group of employees to discourage protected concerted activity, disciplining employees for wearing items with the Union's logo, terminating and/or disciplining employees in retaliation for participating in protected concerted activities, and more", according to the UAW.

The firings come shortly it was reported that Tesla managed to build a mere 260 Model 3s between July and September, a number well below the 1,500 Tesla promised before the end of the fourth quarter.

Tesla is also close to announcing a production plant in China, which would make electric cars for Chinese and Asian markets.

CEO Elon Musk blamed the shortfall on "production bottlenecks".

In addition to the disputes about firings, Tesla has been hit with four lawsuits in recent months from workers alleging racial, LGBT and gender discrimination at its plant in Fremont, California. Is it simply the case that over a thousand employees haven't been meeting expectations, or is it perhaps the result of recent flubs with some of the company's new auto models?

Tesla responded with the following statement at the time of the firings.
