The Alpine A110 is getting a one-make race series

The Alpine A110 is getting a one-make race series”

Alpine has revealed a racing version of its upcoming A110 sports auto. In fact, the Alpine A110 cup will set you back a cool £90,000 before tax.

"It's an exciting challenge, both for Signatech and for Alpine".

In the A110 Cup, the 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine makes 270 hp at 6,000 rpm (18 hp more than in the stock car), courtesy of an air filter and exhaust specially designed for racing.

The gearbox is a race-spec six-speed sequential unit, which comes with a limited-slip differential to help put power into the road.

As with any customer racing vehicle, Alpine's mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive coupé comes complete with a roll cage bolted onto the aluminum chassis, Sabelt bucket seat with built-in head restraints, six-point HANS-compatible harness, automatic fire extinguisher, dry battery, master switch, and more. The chassis features joint-welded subframes, revised rear upper wishbone mounting points, and a roll cage. Speaking of which, racing will start next year for the "Alpine Europa Cup".

The chassis hardware has been beefed up in order to handle the additional load generated by the car's Michelin slick tyres.

Registration for the Alpine Europa Cup, which Alpine says was inspired by the similar Europa Cup held between 1985 and 1988, will cost €20,000 on top of the €100,000 it will cost to buy a vehicle, and the estimated "less than €100,000" of running costs through the season. Alpine said the objective for the auto was to make it both fast and forgiving to drive.

The new A110 Cup features the same attractive lines of the regular A110, but spiced up with a some racing seasoning.

Despite its harder focus, the vehicle does retain air conditioning and the driver's seat sits on adjustable mounts.

The 12-round championship will visit six circuits (each hosting two races) including Hockenheim in Germany, Spa in Belgium and Silverstone in the UK.

Mechanically there are multiple improvements, but none that would make the vehicle wildly different from the road-going model. "More than" £142k is on offer in prize money, too.
