Uber is being sued by three engineers

The allegations against ride hail magnate Uber continue to pile up.

Three engineers have this week filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court in San Francisco which sees Uber accused of discriminating against the engineers based on their gender and race.

The women, Ingrid Avedano, Roxana del Toro Lopez and Ana Medina, are software engineers who identify as Latina.

The women said that they hence lost out on promotions and benefits. Medina is still working at the company and the two other plaintiffs left over the summer, according to a report in Reuters.

According to the complaint, Uber uses a "stack ranking" system to assess employees.

Women, Latino, American Indian and African American employees are given lower performance scores, making it more hard for them to advance professionally and confining them to more menial tasks, according to the lawsuit.

"As a result of Uber's policies, patterns, and practices, female engineers and engineers of color receive less compensation and are promoted less frequently than their male and/or. white or asian counterparts", the suit alleges.

The plaintiffs state that female employees and employees who are African-American, Latino, or American Indian get, on average, lower rankings than male, white, and Asian-American workers, "despite equal or better performance". The three are being represented by Jahan Sagafi of Outten and Golden, a law firm that specializes in employee rights. They are alleging numerous violations of California Labor.

In August, Uber made a series of changes to address pay equity, including increasing pay of employees who were paid below the median salary for their job and providing an annual 2.5 percent raise.
