Wozniacki beats Halep to reach semis — WTA finals

Wozniacki beats Halep to reach semis — WTA finals”

Despite the defeat, Halep is already looking ahead to her next match, something she admits to being habitual regardless of her last result. Then yesterday, she repeated the feat against Garbiñe Muguruza, and with Williams' victory over Jelena Ostapenko-an extraordinary three and a quarter hour three-setter-Pliskova was assured not just of her place in the semis but as the top-placed qualifier.

Halep did manage to get on the board early in the second but Wozniacki was relentless, and provided her few openings.

However, such a comment further adds to the sense that there is a growing tendency...

A rattled Halep said she needed to regroup from the one-sided rout. The 27-year-old Dane broke Halep five times to win 6-0, 6-2 in just 63 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in the Red Group round robin. As she cranked up the victor count, she broke again, and served out her first ever win in Singapore, 7-5. I just ran a lot of balls down and I played aggressively and I mixed up the pace.

Caroline Garcia fought back from the brink of elimination to win another almighty battle with Elina Svitolina which leaves both players still in with a chance of joining Caroline Wozniacki in the last four at the WTA Finals.

"Everything went so fast for me, so I'm very stressed to be here, but now I enjoy it and it's the best moment". An emotional Garcia went back to her chair and started crying before receiving a pep talk from her coach and father Louis-Paul Garcia. She not only needs to beat a Wozniacki playing at her relentless and precision best but must hope that Svitolina bounces back to beat Halep.

Garcia was at one point down 5-3 in the third set, and said she felt like she had nothing to lose from there. She broke Halep's serve twice in the second set.

A disappointed Svitolina said it was a "terrible feeling" to have lost after being in a commanding position.

"I tried to be even more aggressive ..."

There was a much tougher match for eighth-seeded Caroline Garcia of France, who outlasted Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-7 (7) 6-3, 7-5 in a grueling encounter.

"I was patient on the long rallies, and it makes the difference".
