Jane Fonda: Weinstein Victims Being Heard Because They're 'Famous and White'”

Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem have spoken out about the prevailing issues of sexual assault and sexual harassment in society, blasting President Donald Trump for contributing to the problem.

It feels like something has shifted, ' Fonda explained.

Steinem also added her two cents, saying that we're now at a "tipping point" and that, along with what Fonda said about the victims' identities, "the offenders have been cross-race... they've been cross-political lines of all kinds, from right to left..."

The mega-producer, known for starting Miramax and the Weinstein Company, has been accused of acting inappropriately by more than 60 women.

Earlier this month, Fonda came under fire for admitting to the BBC that she knew of the allegations against Weinstein a year ago but kept silent.

To many, the outpour of sexual assault allegations-and high-profile resignations-that followed the exposé's of Harvey Weinstein's history of abuse is seen as a watershed moment. While Fonda acknowledged that the women speaking out against Weinstein made a "big difference", she also made sure to emphasize that "this has been going on for a long time to black women and other women of color, and it doesn't get out quite the same". "But sadly, this comes down to the lack of value America places on black women and girls". "Hopefully it's like a domino effect".

"If you steal money, you probably get arrested and convicted, because everybody says stealing is wrong", she said.

'But if you do something that is very sexist or racist, because there still is a critical mass of bias in this country, it takes more cumulative instances for it to be recognized.

As Fonda pointed out on a recent edition of MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes, many of Weinstein's accusers are white.

Jane Fonda has always been known for making controversial political statements, and her latest comments have stirred up conversation once again.

Fonda called it "ridiculous", while Steinem said plainly: 'Nobody ever said the patriarchy was confined to one [side]'.

While many agreed with the sentiments, it came off as a bit problematic for some.
