More Carabao Cup chaos as Twitter draw fails

More Carabao Cup chaos as Twitter draw fails”

Cup holders Manchester United will have to travel to the Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, England after being drawn against Bristol City for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Bristol City have already overcome three top-flight clubs to make it to this stage, most recently thrashing Crystal Palace 4-1 in the West Country on Tuesday night.

While Twitter users were waiting for the draw - which took place almost two hours after it was scheduled - numerous jokes were flying around about the delay being due to Man Utd not picking out Bristol City.

Arsenal fought back from a goal down to beat Norwich City 2-1 thanks to a double from youngster Eddie Nketiah last time out, whereas the Hammers also came from behind to beat Tottenham 3-2.

Predictably, news that the draw had been pre-recorded during the delay raised eyebrows.

The English Football League (EFL) said a number of technical issues had affected the draw.

Champions Chelsea welcome Bournemouth in the other quarter-final with all matches to be played in the week commencing December 18.

Those theories were compounded by Manchester United being drawn against Bristol City, the only non Premier League team in the draw and the lowest-ranked team left in the competition.

The final clash is between the reigning Premier League champions Chelsea and Bournemouth.

"The EFL has received an apology from Twitter UK for the delay which is believed to have occurred as a result of a faulty encoder".
