1 dead, 57 injured in bridge collapse in Kerala”

One woman was killed and around 50 people were injured when a foot overbridge collapsed near Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited [KMML] at Chavara in Kerala's Kollam district on Monday.

It is the iron bridge across T S Canal used to reach KMML's MS unit that collapsed by around 10.30 am on Monday.

According to CNN-News18, the bridge collapsed when a large number of people gathered on the walkway for a protest march. Chavara native Syamala, an employee of KMML, died in the accident. The 56-year-old woman had been shifted to the Taluk Hospital in Karunagappally along with the other injured people.

The Chavara police confirmed the death of Shyamala Devi to TNM.

Reports say that none of the injured undergoing treatment at the hospitals are in critical condition.

Those crossing the bridge were injured as iron rods fell on them. More details are awaited.
