Sydney, Oct 30 West Indies cricket star Chris Gayle today won a defamation case against an Australian media group which claimed he exposed his genitals to a massage therapist.

The jury determined that the company acted with malice when it published the claims in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and the Canberra Times.

Russell, who now works as an executive assistant for the AFL, stated in her evidence that she had wanted to take a stand for women in sport.

Gayle had told the court that the allegations made by team masseuse Leanna Russell - that he had pulled down his towel in the change room and asked, "Is this what you are looking for?"

McClintock had told the court that the journalist who reported the dressing room episode for "The Age" knew former Channel 10 reporter Mel McLaughlin, who was on the receiving end from Gayle during Big Bash League (BBL) past year.

"I came all the way from Jamaica to defend myself".

He added that he was "not really anxious about money ... more about (my) character". Gayle expressed his relief by embracing his barrister, Bruce McClintock SC outside the court on Monday and said: "I am a good man". In a statement they said they were, "concerned with the conduct of the trial to the extent that on Friday it sought an order that the jury be discharged and a new trial ordered". "Fairfax believes that it did not get a fair trial. It is seriously considering its appeal rights", according to The Hindu.
