DGMO contacts Indian counterpart, protests deliberate targeting of civilians”

On India's allegation of targeting of civilians by Pakistan Army, DGMO Pakistan Army stated that Pakistan considered people living across LoC as its brethren and Pakistan Army as a professional force has never done such act.

According to the ISPR, Pakistani Director General of Military Operations Sahir Shamshad spoke with his Indian counterpart on a special hotline and condemned the Indian targetting of innocent civilian population on Pakistani side of the LoC.

Indian forces along the Line of Control in J&K.

"These civilians have repeatedly been used to gain information on our locations and providing guides to terrorists while crossing the LoC", he told the Pakistan DGMO. The DGMO recently replied to a query in which it the Army revealed that over 200 incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan was recorded in August and September.

"The DGO further clarified that the Indian Army maintains standards of professionalism and does not target civilians", a press release said.

The exchange between the two sides came during unscheduled talks over the hotline, at Islamabad's behest.

Indian and Pakistani military commanders traded heated accusations on Monday in a rare telephone conversation between the nuclear-armed rivals over repeated cross-border firing in disputed Kashmir.

During an earlier interaction, India had told Pakistan that infiltration along the LoC continues "with active support of Pakistan forward posts" and warned that it reserves the right to retaliate appropriately to any loss of life of Indian troops.

On October 24, Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire on the Naugam sector along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a strong retaliation by the Indian Army.

Last week, Pakistan had summoned India's deputy high commissioner for the fourth time this month over "ceasefire violations" by Indian troops along the LoC.
