Kuwait PM submits cabinet's resignation after minister questioned

Kuwait PM submits cabinet's resignation after minister questioned”

The Emir accepted the resignation and ordered that the ministers will now take on a caretaker role until a new cabinet is formed.

Last week, lawmakers questioned Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Information Minister Mohammed al-Abdullah Al Sabaha amid allegations of financial mismanagement by the latter.

Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah submitted the government's official resignation to Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah this afternoon, official news agency KUNA confirmed.

Parliament, however, suspended its sessions until a new cabinet is sworn in.

Nevertheless the parliament is one of the more influential in the Arab world.

After the session, 10 MPs - unsatisfied with the minister's answers - had asked that he be subject to a vote of confidence in a parliamentary session next week.

Prime Minister Sabah has held his post since 2011 and was reappointed after the parliamentary election the following year.

Report says Kuwait, like other Gulf countries whose economies are centered on oil and gas extraction and processing, has been hard hit by prolonged low oil prices.
