Lethal Weapon 5 Rumored to be in the Works

Lethal Weapon 5 Rumored to be in the Works”

Whether the film gets made or not, we'll always have It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's version of Lethal Weapon 5. After so much time and after Mel Gibson's well-publicized legal and personal issues, many had given up hope of ever seeing another film in the franchise.

Lethal Weapon continues on Fridays on ITV at 9pm.

Reports indicate that Channing Gibson, the screenwriter of that fourth film, will be returning to pen the proposed Lethal Weapon 5 which would be Donner's first film since he helmed 2006's 16 Blocks.

But one thing the show was missing is the lighting sharp wit and humour of Gibson and Glover's on-screen partnership - something that we at Metro.co.uk are waiting for with baited breath. Gibson and Glover are both apparently in-tune with director Richard Donner (who directed Superman: The Movie in addition to all four previous Lethal Weapon films), who has interest in directing the fifth film in the series.

It's been almost twenty years since the last Lethal Weapon movie, and as it stands, buddy-cop movies are fewer and further between than one would expect from Hollywood.

Ironically, the character of Murtaugh was on the verge of retirement in that first film, though he continued to be active in the remaining films. There is also an ongoing TV series on FOX. At the 2016 Academy Awards, Gibson was welcomed back when his latest directorial effort, Hacksaw Ridge, was nominated for multiple awards.
