14-year-old archer's throat pierced by arrow

14-year-old archer's throat pierced by arrow”

Kolkata: On Monday morning, in a freak accident, an arrow pierced through the neck of a 14-year-old trainee archer at Sports Authority of India (SAI) training center in West Bengal's Bolpur.

"She told the coach that she was trying to find a shade to avoid the sun and was hit by the arrow", said Goindi. An arrow shot by one of a male archer pierced her neck and the victim Fozila Khatun was rushed to a nearby Hospital where duty doctors managed to remove arrow from her neck safely.

Screen grab of the arrow stuck in the girl's neck. "I came close and was hit", she said, adding that none of the trainers were present at the spot when the accident happened.

She said to be a promising recurve archer.

Calling for a detailed inquiry into the incident, Goindi said: "There's a strict protocol about shooting as when archers go to collect the arrows there is a ceasefire". Goindi said that this would not happen again.

"Strangely she was around the target when shooting was going on".

At the time of the unfortunate incident, Fazila was being given training to prepare for the Inter-SAI tournament to be held next month.
