Plane bounces off runway at Salzburg airport, almost scrapes tarmac

Video taken by onlookers showed the Enter Air flight, a Poland-based airline, struggling as it began to land at Salzburg airport on Sunday, reports euronews.

THIS is the heart-stopping moment a passenger plane was forced to abandon a landing attempt after its wing almost hits the runway while being battered by heavy winds.

Michael Hufnagl captured the plane on Saturday being jolted around in crosswinds as it approached the runway in stormy conditions.

The plane chose to fly back to Frankfurt, where it came from, and made a safe landing, The Mirror reported, citing the Aviation Herald website.

Hair-raising footage was uploaded to video site YouTube by plane watcher "Cargospotter".

Elsewhere in Austria, winds up to 100kms/h caused widespread damage including at the Neusiedlersee, one of the largest lakes in Central Europe.

A strong gust of wind disturbed the aircraft, according to the Aviation Herald. The crew decided not to risk it with a second attempt at landing and returned to Frankfurt.
