Pregnant woman dies during police raid”

On Sunday, the police had conducted a raid searching illicit liquor after getting a tip-off.

The 22-year-old woman namely Ruchi Rawat was hit in her stomach with sticks by the police, which suspected her of faking the pregnancy to hide illegal liquor around her belly.

The family also alleged that when they saw the policemen patrolling the area, they got nervous and started running, but as the woman was pregnant she could not run.

Ruchi was kicked in the stomach claimed a woman.

"Three people were arrested and taken to the police station".

The Policemen escaped when the angry mob surrounded them after Ruchi died.

Arvind Rawat, Ruchi's husband, said that he works in a local poultry farm and neither him nor his family members are involved in the making of country liquor.

The incident was brought to the attention of top police and administrative officials, but no FIR has been lodged regarding the death of the Dalit pregnant woman. "In our village, no one is involved in this illegal business. They might have tried to escape and in the attempt she died", Yadav said adding that it is believed that she died in an attempt to run. Senior police officer Sushil Singh denied the role of policemen in the death. "All these accusations are completely false", he said.
