Book World announces liquidation; Willmar store to close

Book World announces liquidation; Willmar store to close”

Seven central Wisconsin Book World locations are among those to close following news Tuesday the Appleton-based retailer would closed all 45 locations.

"Book World regrets to announce that beginning Thursday, a liquidation sale will begin at each Book World store location which will run until all inventory is sold", a press release from the corporation read.

Book World has hired liquidation company Yellen Partners to aid in the closure of its stores.

Escanaba's Book World anticipates closing its doors permanently in mid-January.

This resulted in reduced customer counts at Book World's stores, and sales fell to a level where its business operations were no longer sustainable.

A Wisconsin-based chain of book stores, with several in northwestern IL, is going out of business.

The list includes Book World in South Park Mall in Moline, plus Sterling, Galena, Peru, and Freeport in IL, and a store in West Burlington, Iowa. It's now the 4 largest book store chain in the country.

The first Book World store was founded in 1976 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
