Burglar jailed for murdering former Royal Navy officer”

A burglar has been found guilty of murder after he ran over an ex-Royal Navy officer twice with his own auto as his distraught wife looked on.

'I was shouting, "Help!"

Raymond Davies, 21, who drove Gibbons and two other men, who have not been caught by police, to the address to steal the auto, admitted burglary but was also found guilty of manslaughter.

Gibbons, of Steven Court, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court.

The 29-year-old Gibbons had pleaded guilty to burglary and aggravated vehicle-taking, but denied murder claiming he had not seen Mike before running him over, but had heard something underneath the auto, and the sound of screaming before he drove off. Help! Somebody help me.

Mike Samwell, 35, suffered catastrophic injuries to his chest and heart after trying to prevent Ryan Gibbons, 29, from stealing his Audi S3 auto.

Mike Samwell, a nuclear engineer and Jessica awoke to the sound of burglars in their home and Mike ran down the stairs shouting "get out of the car" but was run over at around 3am.

He insists he had no idea he had reversed over Samwell, telling the jury he hadn't seen him but had heard "screaming" and thought "something had gone under the wheel" before speeding off.

'I was just telling him that I loved him and holding his hand'.

The jury at Manchester crown court took three and half hours to convict Ryan Gibbons, 29, of murder on Tuesday afternoon. He was cleared of aggravated vehicle-taking but convicted of taking a vehicle without consent.

Chilling footage shows the £600-a-week concrete flooring contractor strolling into his local pub the next morning after learning of Samwell's death in an attempt to "act normal".

Gibbons returned home then went to buy some cannabis but came across Raymond Davies sitting in his BMW with two other men he refused to name.

Ryan Gibbons stole his victim's vehicle and drove over him twice. He had driven the auto off at speeds of up to 90mph, before he crashed into a curb.

"Mike was one of those rare people who was loved by everyone who met him".

'Instead of calling for help, or turning themselves in, these men actively chose to evade police after Gibbons took Samwell's auto and left Mike fighting for his life.
