Denny Hamlin Accepts Blame Wrecking Chase Elliott At Martinsville

Following Sunday's controversial finish at Martinsville in which he wrecked Chase Elliott from the lead with three laps remaining, Denny Hamlin issued the following apology on Twitter.

While tensions between the two drivers seemed to calm a bit, the scene got even stranger as a frustrated fan got within a few feet of Hamlin in pit row trying to pick a fight.

Elliott was upset that Hamlin crashed him out of the lead in the closing laps of race that had he won would've clinched Elliott in a spot in the championship finale.

Shortly after all of the post-race shenanigans were finished, Hamlin sent out a message on social media apologizing to Elliott and his fans for the spin. Hamlin tried to defend himself through a myriad of boos from the crowd - he said he didn't wreck Elliott on goal - but the Hendrick Motorsports driver was still furious. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver claimed he didn't intend to put Elliott in the wall and that he regretted his decision.

"I want to see the replay - that's what I thought happened, and that's what happened".

Elliott ran into the back of Hamlin on the backstretch during the cool-down lap, prompting both drivers to come to a halt and climb out of their cars.

"We had a great auto today, and we had an opportunity - had a good restart there at the end and felt like I was doing what I needed to do". The next race is Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.
