Hybridization Is Inevitable For Lamborghini's Huracan Successor

Hybridization Is Inevitable For Lamborghini's Huracan Successor”

"It's easier in our first plug-in hybrid, the Urus, because the ambition of the auto in terms of packaging and weight is not so hard", Lamborghini's research and development boss Maurizio Reggiani told Autocar.

Lamborghini's naturally-aspirated engines have seemingly be granted a stay of execution thanks to a new hybrid plan outlined by the Italian marque's global boss.

Apart from their V12 powered supercar, the Huracan has also reached a production milestone as well, giving Lamborghini more reason to celebrate.

"Next-generation" battery technology will purportedly minimise weight and give the Huracan successor the ability run in electric-only mode, said Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali.

As such, it's understood the replacement for the Aventador, due before the Huracan's successor, will stick with a naturally aspirated V12 engine.

Lamborghini admitted that to date the technology is still not sufficiently developed in order to provide resilient and dynamic hypercar with a hybrid engine that would be able to compete with gasoline models.

Lamborghini's next-generation Huracan is set to come with a hybrid powertrain when it is introduced in 2022. Batteries add considerable kilos to the overall weight of a vehicle, and this has a bearing on performance and handling. "It's not the Lamborghini super-sports vehicle mission".

All said, with Lamborghini taking the plunge and deciding to develop a plug-in hybrid of its popular supercar, it clearly shows hybrid cars are the future. In addition, the long-awaited Urus SUV will launch with a hybrid powertrain later this year.
