Nikola Mirotic Will Forgo Surgery On Facial Fractures”

The Bulls' Nikola Mirotic will not have surgery to fix his facial fractures, a possibility the Tribune reported last week.

Mirotic suffered a concussion and facial fractures when he was punched by Portis during a practice altercation October 17. Instead, Mirotic is opting for the injury to heal on its own.

Coach Fred Hoiberg said that there would be no change in the timeline for Nikola Mirotic (face) even though he will not undergo surgery, meaning Mirotic is expected back in 2-4 weeks. The better he feels, if he's not having any symptoms, he can get on the court and then start running and all those types of things.

"We're not expecting him to play anytime soon". In fact, one source said the situation is playing out toward a "me or him" trade demand.

Chicago gave Portis an eight-game suspension which he's now serving.

Last season, Mirotic was a fixture of the Bulls' rotation, and averaged solid numbers of 10.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 24.0 minutes per game. That's the date where they could pick up the fourth-year team option of Portis' contract.

Portis, 22, is three years deep into his rookie deal, and the Bulls exercised his option this past Friday.
