Packers tried to sign free agent QB Brian Hoyer

The Patriots reportedly reached an agreement with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer on a three-year contract Wednesday, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Then, less than a month later, he re-signed with the Packers.

McCarthy was visibly frustrated when asked if the Packers would sign free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick and doubled down that the team was fine with the quarterbacks in Green Bay's locker room.

Hoyer played on the Patriots as Tom Brady's backup from 2009 to 2011.

He has played for the 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Redskins and Packers. That suggests that the Packers aren't quite as confident in Hundley as they're letting on. He threw four touchdowns and four interceptions, with a completion percentage of 58.0 and a passer rating of 74.1.

Hoyer, 32, started six games for the 49ers this season.

The Packers last saw Hoyer in 2016 when he was a member of the Chicago Bears. That would be good as quarterback Brett Hundley makes his second start with the team.

Taylor's return could give the Packers their entire starting offensive line back for Monday nights game against the Detroit Lions.
