Reported illnesses prompts recall of Maple Leaf Foods chicken strips

Reported illnesses prompts recall of Maple Leaf Foods chicken strips”

The firm says the national recall of its chicken breast strips is due to possible toxins produced by Staphylococcus bacteria.

If you bought some chicken breast strips recently, you'll want to check the box closely.

CFIA said 840 gram packages of Maple Leaf Chicken Breast Strips, with an expiry date of September 29, 2018 could contain a toxin produced by the Staphylococcus bacteria.

Check to see if you have recalled product in your home.

CFIA says you can throw out the products or return them to the store of purchase.

Food contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell spoiled.

The agency noted the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint and some illnesses have been linked to the consumption of the chicken.

It says Staphylococcus bacteria can not easily be killed through normal cooking temperatures. Symptoms of staphylococcus poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases of illness, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur.
