Court Declines To Suspend Metuh's Trial

Court Declines To Suspend Metuh's Trial”

Justice Abang who has now resumed sitting for the Friday's proceedings is to first rule on the request by the defence to defer the testimony of Dasuki until his release from the custody of the DSS and would be able to have access to his records which he claimed he needed to be able to continue his testimony.

When asked to identify an electronic payment voucher indicating the transfer of the controversial N400 million in foreign denomination to Mr. Metuh's company, Dextra Investment Limited, Mr. Dasuki said the said voucher was a document from the prosecution, which he could not identify until he is allowed access to his own documents. "It would be useful for the counsel to make himself familiar with the NSA Act".

Led in evidence by Metuh's lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, Dasuki told the court that he had never entered into any unlawful transaction with Ex-PDP spokesperson while he was in the office.

"I am not aware of the relationship that existed between ONSA and the defendants".

He said: "I have being maligned and convicted in the court of public opinion by my traducers against the usual judicial process through court trials".

Reacting, Dasuki confirmed the document was an e-payment mandate, but refused to say anything less.

The prosecution counsel requested that an attached document to Exhibit B (e-payment mandate) be shown to Dasuki, which the court did.

Dasuki in response said he doesn't know except he refers to his records.

In reply, the subpoenaed witness said, "My name has been purportedly typed out there and what appears to be my signatories are there".

He further said that as the NSA, he was in charge collating security issues and reporting to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as demanded by the law that established the Office of the NSA.

Fielding questions under cross-examination by the counsel to the EFCC, Mr. Sylvanus Tahir, Dasuki, who is Metuh's eighth defence witness, insisted on his earlier statement that he could no longer remember how much was paid to Metuh or the objective for the payment.

In addition, Dasuki said he was statutorily answerable to President Goodluck Jonathan (2010-2015).

The trial judge, Okon Abang, adjourned the matter till December 4 to 6 for continuation of trial.
