Kiir accuses Sudan of being 'source of weapons' in South Sudan war

The President of the State of South Sudan, General, Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed his country's desire for opening the borders crossings with Sudan, explaining the presence of security arrangements for administration for these crossings.

"We do not support the Sudanese rebel movements, and if you come to Juba, you will not find them", Kiir told a joint news conference with Bashir in response to accusations that his country was providing support to the Sudanese rebels.

Wrapping up a two-day trip to Khartoum on Thursday, Kiir reiterated that his country would not support armed Sudanese opposition groups before announcing an agreement with Bashir on a roadmap to implement outstanding security agreements.

Due to the disputes, ties between Khartoum and Juba have often been tense since South Sudan gained independence in 2011.

According to the South Sudan Ministry of Finance, arrears owed to Sudan are estimated at 301.2 million USA dollars this fiscal year, of which 171.8 million dollars will be provided through in-kind shipments and 12.1 million dollars in direct payments.

Juba has accused Khartoum of aiding Kiir's opponent and former deputy Riek Machar in South Sudan's ongoing civil war, which has killed tens of thousands and uprooted millions since 2013.

Economically, the two countries agreed to relaunch operations in oil fields affected by the conflict and war, settle outstanding debts and support South Sudan's private sector.

Kiir On Thursday reiterated accusations that Khartoum aided Machar, who is now living in exile in South Africa, and fighters loyal to him.

"There are a lot of South Sudanese who were working in Sudan and are on pension and these people have been facing difficulties in receiving their pensions".

For his part, Salva Kiir said his talks with Bashir have led to a road map for moving forward.
