Paris Masters: Rafael Nadal moves into quarter-finals

Paris Masters: Rafael Nadal moves into quarter-finals”

Rafael Nadal battled through in three sets to beat Pablo Cuevas in the third round of the Paris Masters, booking his place in the quarter-finals.

The 31-year-old Spaniard breezed through the set after that and claimed it 6-3.

Del Potro's latest win takes him up to 10th place in the standings and just one more win away from moving ahead of Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta, who now occupies the last qualification berth.

Del Potro, who won a silver medal at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, will face John Isner of the United States for a place in the last four.

"Of course I will play in London!"

An early break at the start of the second didn't put the Uruguayan to bed, and he took the second set in a breaker, with Nadal clearly struggling.

The 29-year-old grabbed the crucial break in game five of the second set, before closing out a comfortable victory.

"It's extra motivation to me", said Del Potro.

If the World No.1 is to compete at the Nitto ATP Finals next week, a title that he has never won so far, he needs to be in the best shape.

"It's going to be a good battle next round trying to qualify for London".

"It could be a fantastic moment for me", he added.

The world number 14 clinched an opening-set tie-break on his sixth set point, before Dimitrov rallied to force a decider.

David Goffin was knocked out in the third round but still became the first Belgian to qualify for the season-ending Tour finals after France's Lucas Pouille lost to American Jack Sock.

But Isner broke Dimitrov when the sixth seed was serving for the match with a scorching return victor, and continued his momentum to finally finish the match in a third-set breaker after nearly three hours of play.

Pablo Cuevas, now ranked World No. 36, played a tight three-setter in his previous match against the 29-year-old Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas.

Barty ensured she escaped from the Rose Group with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 triumph over former world number one Angelique Kerber of Germany. He seemed to have finally, belatedly gained some momentum in the match and closed it out at 6-3, securing his quarter-final berth.
