"83" set for April 2019 release

The inception of such overwhelming power can be traced back to this very win in the 1983 World Cup, which featured heroes such as Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Kris Srikkanth and many others.

Ranveer Singh has already won everyone's heart by his portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in the upcoming film Padmavati. Speculation is rife whether Katrina Kaif, who is Kabir's favourite actress - she has done three films with the director starting from New York, Ek Tha Tiger to Phantom -will be cast as Kapil Dev's wife Romi Devi.

The film features Ranveer Singh as the captain of the squad, Kapil Dev.

"Yesterday, Bollywood Analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the release date for the upcoming movie titled "83" on his Twitter account along with a caption saying, "#BreakingNews: "#83, directed by Kabir Khan and starring Ranveer Singh as cricket icon Kapil Dev, to release on 5 April 2019..." It is about that day, and all the events that lead to that moment of victory, tracking the coming of age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world. He says that as a filmmaker the journey of that win filled with the raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team is probably one of the exciting stories that he has worked on so far. Based on the India's historic victory at 1983's World Cup finale at England's Lord's stadium.

The project is backed by Phantom films, co-owned by filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena. The Kabir Khan directorial is slated to hit the theatres on April 5, 2019.

Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Vibri Media said, "The country needs to know the story of the first world champions". This is the first time when Kabir Khan and Ranveer Singh will be working together for a movie.
