Haverhill toddler struck by vehicle, critically injured”

A toddler was struck by a auto and critically injured Monday evening, police said.

The collision happened on River Street about 6:20 p.m. when a man, woman and the young boy were crossing, police said.

Police said the woman suffered minor hand injuries, but the toddler suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

The driver remained on the scene, and the accident is now under investigation.

Haverhill police are investigating the incident.

The driver of the auto, who had been traveling inbound, stopped after the accident and answered questions.

Police closed the inbound side of River Street, Pistone said.
