Stop Kashmir talk in your parliament, India tells UK

Stop Kashmir talk in your parliament, India tells UK”

The minister of state for home, Kiren Rijiju raised this issue during his delegation level meeting with visiting British minister of state for immigration, Brandon Lewis.

Rijiju said that the Kashmir issue was being raised in the British parliament at the behest of some MPs of Pakistan origin.

The Indian side also conveyed resentment over shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry of the Labour Party saying that Britain would incorporate its concern on alleged human rights violations in Kashmir in any post-Brexit deal with India, the official said. "It has been positive and cooperative about them; especially on the issue of extradition as well as the mutual legal assistance treaty", Kiren Rijiju told ANI.

The UK side said the British society is liberal and advocates free speech and ideas, another official said.

India on Monday sought cooperation from Britain for extradition of thirteen fugitives and asked it to not allow its territory to be used by Kashmiri and Khalistani separatists.

Mallya was first arrested on April 18, after the extradition request was issued on January 31, since when a number of cases and management hearings have taken place ahead of the extradition hearing, which is to start on December 4.

"The discussions covered a variety of important issues ranging from cooperation in matters of immigration, tackling extremism, extradition, cyber crimes, sharing of criminal records and social security for Indian workers returning from the United Kingdom", a senior home ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

India also sought legal assistance in prosecution of 16 other alleged criminals, PTI reported.

New Delhi made it clear to the British delegation that Kashmir is an integral part of India and such activities should be checked.

Among the fugitives whose extradition India is pressing for are Rajesh Kapoor, accused of kidnapping his brother Deepak Kapoor's daughter, Tiger Hanif, who is wanted in connection with two bomb attacks in Gujarat in 1993, Atul Singh, Raj Kumar Patel, Jatiender Kumar Angurala and Asha Rani Angurala. Other issues that figured in the meeting included dependent visas, fraud phone calls to Indian nationals, distressed or abandoned Indian women, cybercrime etc.
