Suns rally falls short, Brooklyn comes out on top 98-92”

D'Angelo Russell scored 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, and the Brooklyn Nets earned their first road win of the year, beating the Phoenix Suns 98-92 on Monday night. They also avenged a 122-114 home loss to the Suns on October 31.

Booker picked up where he left off so far this season, and is averaging impressive numbers of 22.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 32.3 minutes per game. Mike James scored 16 points and Tyler Ulis added 11 for the Suns (4-7), who have lost three straight and fell to 4-4 under interim coach Jay Triano.

Nets: F Rondae-Hollis Jefferson played 17 minutes in the first half but did not return in the second half due to a right hip contusion. However, the rest of the Nets were able to persevere.

D'Angelo Russell of the Nets reacts alongside Quincy Acy against the Suns at Talking Stick Resort Arena on November 6, 2017, in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Suns rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit to lead 75-74 after Jared Dudley's layup with 9:17 to play, but the Nets went back ahead moments later and held on to end a four-game skid.

Anxious that the Nets' offense had fallen out of rhythm during their four-game losing streak, Nets coach Kenny Atkinson made a change in the starting lineup, inserting three-point marksman Crabbe at shooting guard in place of Caris LeVert, who shot only 34.3 percent from the field and 22.0 percent from three-point range through the first nine games. He needed six points to reach 3,000 entering the game. Midway in the first quarter, a Harris three-pointer ignited what grew into a 25-5 run to give the Nets a 34-19 lead early in the second period. The Suns responded with a 14-1 run that got them back in the game, but the Nets maintained a 47-41 halftime lead, holding the Suns to 25 percent shooting.

Harris had 14 points in 14 first-half minutes off the bench.

Booker, 21, is the fourth-youngest player in National Basketball Association history to score 3,000 points, behind LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. Nets F Quincy Acy (left groin strain) returned after missing the previous three games. The Suns wound up losing the game, on account of being the Suns, but the team didn't care. If they can speed up the development of some of their young players, and even acquire savvy veterans, they could emerge as a team of the future, and will be a very tough team to beat in the coming years, as long as they'll have Booker in their fold.
