Microsoft Wants LinkedIn to Help You Create Your Next Resume

Users can get inspiration from others in their field and see how people represent their work experience and skills.

This has included trying to forge closer ties with universities and other places of learning to help users tie in these very earliest stages of their career development, and a way to allow people to apply for jobs using their LinkedIn profiles as resume proxies for people to share their resumes with each other when applying for jobs.

When the company acquired LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in 2016, we made several predictions about the ways in which a Microsoft and LinkedIn marriage could work, like Microsoft leveraging LinkedIn in order to give users access to expertise within Microsoft apps, such as Word and PowerPoint.

Today, Microsoft is announcing Resume Assistant, a feature that's coming to Word that's meant to help you to "craft more compelling resumes".

"With over 80 percent of resumes updated in Word, Resume Assistant helps job seekers showcase accomplishments, be more easily discovered by recruiters, and find their ideal job", explained Bryan Goode, general manager for Office 365. It also suggests open positions that may interest the user, based on key words in their resume. And of course, being that it is LinkedIn, it will also recommend relevant jobs as well. Users can follow up with open job listings straight from Word, using the Resume Assistant feature.

Microsoft also is touting other LinkedIn integrations related to Resume Assistant. The company has confirmed that Resume Assistant is going to be rolled out more broadly across the globe over the next few months.

More information on Resume Assistant is available on this LinkedIn blog.
