ObamaCare signups surge in early days to set new record”

According to the latest reports, a record number of people in the US have signed up for Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act (ACA) after it was announced that enrollments for the 2018 healthcare plan were open.

On the first day of enrollment alone, November 1, one source close to the process told The Hill that more than 200,000 people selected a plan for 2018, compared with about 100,000 past year.

The political news website said more than 1 million people visited healthcare.gov on the same day, compared to about 750,000 a year ago.

That's double the 100,000 who signed up on the first day of enrollment a year ago.

As Trump removes key parts of Obamacare, a record number of Americans have signed up for the program.

"Starting today, you can sign up for 2018 health coverage".

The surge in sign-ups, which was confirmed by an administration official, comes despite fears from Democrats that enrollment would fall off due to the Trump administration's cutbacks in outreach and advertising.

The window to sign up for health care for 2018 opened November 1 and will close December 15.

Since President Trump took office in January, health care experts and advocates have sounded the alarm that his budget cuts and policy changes would severely reduce health insurance enrollment-predicting a dip of more than 1 million people compared to past year.

Trump and GOP lawmakers have made dismantling Obamacare a priority - even though Republican efforts to repeal the law without a replacement have so far stalled on Capitol Hill.

Last month, Trump signed an executive order halting federal subsidies to insurance companies meant to ease costs for low-income Americans.
