Plane's engine bursts into flames as it lands at Seattle airport”

A Hawaiian Airlines plane landed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with flames coming from one of its engines.

The fire went out right after the plane landed - extinguished by the Airbus A330's fire suppression system.

Hawaiian Airlines issued a statement via Twitter that the flight experienced a left engine issue on final approach to the airport.

Passengers waiting to board a separate flight at a nearby terminal witnessed the incident, with some recording it on their smartphones.

The aircraft that landed was a ferry flight, meaning only flight crew onboard and no passengers. The FAA is still investigating what caused the fire. The fire had already been extinguished by the time Fire crews arrived at the aircraft'. Airport officials said no injuries were reported. "The aircraft is now being inspected". It was being moved from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, to the Sea-Tac airport.

There were no issues or alarms when the aircraft was in the air, the spokesperson said, so it's believed the problem was a compressor stall - similar to a vehicle backfiring, and that it happened on the ground after the plane landed.
