Uber works with NASA to get flying taxis ready by 2020

Uber works with NASA to get flying taxis ready by 2020”

There's one new partner to help make the LA trial happen: NASA. The new Flying Cars project by Uber will take its testing phase by 2020.

Uber's plan is to introduce a network of electrical vertical take-off and landing vehicles known as eVTOL.

The four-person ridesharing flights won't become a reality anytime soon but Holden said there are plans for demonstrations of the flying vehicle network in Los Angeles, in addition to previously announced cities, Dallas and Dubai, in 2020.

We have been seeing different types of drones in different sizes and they are flying high in different conditions in the market at a low altitude.

The company is looking to speed development of a new industry of electric, on-demand, urban air taxis, Holden said, which customers could order up via smartphone in ways that parallel the ground-based taxi alternatives it has popularized while expanding into more than 600 cites since 2011. Dallas-Fort Worth is the first USA launch partner, while Dubai will be the first global city.

Jeff Holden, chief product officer at Uber, said in a statement on Wednesday, "UberAir will be performing far more flights on a daily basis than it has ever been done before".

Known for its unmanageable traffic, Los Angeles will make for an interesting test bed for the flying vehicles.

Instead, Uber is building the software to manage networks in the sky of flying taxis, while relying on a stable of manufacturers, including Aurora Flight Sciences, which was acquired by Boeing BA.N last month.

This Flying Cars or Flying Taxis concept by Uber looks quite affordable.

"We are very much embracing the regulatory bodies and starting very early in discussions about this and getting everyone aligned with the vision", he said of Uber's plans to introduce what he called "ride-sharing in the sky". According to Uber, its UberAIR service could compress a one and a half hour journey from LAX to the Staples Center during rush hour to under 30 minutes.

The main reason behind bringing the Flying Cars like drone machines into reality is to provide more faster transportation which is affordable.
