Albuquerque picked for new Facebook program

Albuquerque picked for new Facebook program”

"We are excited and welcome Facebook to Albuquerque", Mayor Richard Berry said, following Zuckerberg's announcement.

Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is kicking off an effort to get USA small businesses to spend more on advertising as the image of the social media network's ads have taken a hit for their role in alleged Russian attempts to sway US voters. Zuckerberg announced the decision, of course, on Facebook.

"Today we're announcing a new program called Facebook Community Boost to help small businesses in the United States grow, and to help more people get the digital skills those businesses need".

Currently, more than 70 million small businesses have a Facebook page. "This is the next step".

We're going to bring Facebook Community Boost to 30 United States cities in 2018 - including St. Louis; Albuquerque; Des Moines; Greenville, South Carolina and Houston. Some of the existing Facebook programs that Levy cited as targeting small businesses and job seekers include Boost Your Business, a one-day in-person training program that Facebook claims has trained more than 60,000 small businesses in the USA, and Blueprint, an e-learning platform that teaches participants how to better market on Facebook. "This initiative will help train our residents in developing key skills to help them thrive in our ever-evolving digital world. We will be working with Facebook to ensure our businesses have access to this exciting opportunity, because New Mexicans deserve a diversified economy for the future".

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandburg thanked Berry for his "warm welcome" and said the company looked forward to working with the city.

Facebook disclosed in September that Russians bought ads on its platform in an attempt to divide Americans in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential election. Facebook attorneys testified in front of Congress last week about the extent of the influence.
