More than 2.4 million book ticket for Mars

In an interesting piece of news, it has come to light that around 1,38,899 people from India are going to visit Mars soon. As per the reports, around 2,429,807 people have booked their flight to Mars as they signed up to have their names on a microchip which NASA carried on upcoming Insights mission.

The names are actually being etched on a silicon wafer microchip and an electron beam is being used to form letters. "Space enthusiasts who signed up this last round shared their downloadable "boarding passes" on social media, complete with the total number of flight miles they've collected by participating in engagement initiatives for other Mars missions", read NASA's post.

In fact, India ranks the third in the global list with regards to the number of names submitted from a single country. India is in the third position in terms of the number of registrations made (after the USA with 6,76,773 names and China with 2,62,752 names).

Several Indians responded to Nasa's call for names for the Mars mission. They attributed India's growing interest in space mission due to the country's recent Mangalyaan mission as well as strengthening of India-Us space ties.

The deadline to submit names for the mission ended last week and now NASA is not accepting any further requests. Slated for landing near the Mars equator on November 26, 2018, it is a 720-day mission, which will gather data on the Martian interior by monitoring Marsquakes.

The mission also aspires to gain broader insight into the formation of rocky planets in the entire solar system.
