Unofficial numbers show Democrats dominate Election 2017 in Ridgefield — Blue sweep

Unofficial numbers show Democrats dominate Election 2017 in Ridgefield — Blue sweep”

In the Planning and Zoning Commission's race with three open seats, Republicans John Cox won a seat with 1,377 votes, Max McIntyre won a seat with 1,309 votes, and Michael Thomas recieved 1,244 votes, while Democrats Denise Raap won a seat with 1,522 votes, and Robert Lupo received 1,161 votes.

Suffolk Democrats held onto control of the Suffolk legislature Tuesday while losing their supermajority by a single seat. In Delaware County, Democrats lead Republicans by 16,525 voters.

Republican Robert Cantwell III is the apparent victor with 996 votes over Democrat Joe Hughes who vote 904 votes.

All results are unofficial and do not include absentee ballots. Republican Jeanne Porada (542 votes) defeated Democrat Bill Carey (275) for the two-year term. For that reason, it is not obvious that Tuesday's performance represents a significant improvement over the Democrats' showings earlier in the year.

Republicans are still counting the upsets and losses in Tuesday's local races.

Democratic incumbents Doug Silver and Margaret Stamatis were also re-elected, with Stamatis and Holz unofficially receiving more votes than any other candidates - 2,933 and 2,823, respectively.

Selectman Alesia Kennerson, a Republican, also won re-election with 1,205 votes to former Pinewoods Health & Racquet Club owner Eric Claman Sr.'s 1,099 votes.

Boston's Democratic mayor, Marty Walsh, won a second term as was widely expected.

In the selectmen's race, Republicans Jonathan Torrant received 1,184 votes, Paul Parsons received 1,167 votes, and Democrat Diane Knox received 976 votes.

Pushing the message that a vote for them was a vote against President Trump, Delaware County Democrats out-polled Republicans in a County Council election for the first time in history, winning both seats up for grabs in an ultra-tight race. Town Board member Terry Middleton ran unopposed for supervisor in Fort Edward, following the retirement of Mitch Suprenant.

One incumbent was ousted in the six contested Washington County supervisor elections.

Incumbent Republican Robert Shay fended off a challenge from Unity party candidate James Griffith in White Creek.
