B&O Play expands its multi-room speaker offering with Beoplay M3

In terms of wireless connectivity you can listen to music, podcasts etc on the Beoplay M3 via Bluetooth 4.2, built-in Chromecast audio functionality, Apple Airplay (Airplay 2.0 coming soon) or via Wi-Fi (2.4 or 5hz a/b/g/n/ac) to some or all of the B&O PLAY and/or Bang & Olufsen multi-room speakers you own.

The Danish Company will also have to compete with a new range of Harman Kardon networked products next year. Each speaker has a 40 Watt Class D amplifier built in.

As for the audio tech packed inside the M3, you'll get a 3.75-inch subwoofer, 0.75-inch tweeter, and front-facing directional speakers.

The M3 is smaller than the M5, and offers less in the way of sound from a pure hardware perspective: it has just a 3.75-inch woofer and a single 0.75-inch tweeter, instead of a 5-inch woofer, 1.5-inch midrange, and three 0.75-inch tweeters.

Control for the speaker comes courtesy of the Beoplay app, which allows for its placement in a room to be configured and sound to be tweaked to get the most out of the M3.

Unlike its M5 brother, which sports a cylindrical body, the Beoplay M3 opts for a more oval design, but is still incredibly minimalistic in its approach. Colours for the speaker itself are minimal, offering only black and light-grey "Natural" colour options. Music is played out directly from the front, so it can't claim to provide 360-degree sound like the M5, but the M3 is still powerful enough to comfortably fill a room with sound. The Beoplay P2 hits stores today and is priced from $300-although that cost can rise with optional accessories like extra covers and a wall mount.

Clearly created to fit seamlessly into a modern Scandinavian/Nordic style home, the Beoplay M3 is available in two colours: Natural (Grey) and Black, with yet unnamed seasonal colours to come.
