Carrier plant Trump vowed to protect schedules 200 layoffs”

"The jobs are still leaving". But Robert James, President of the United Steelworkers Union, said employees "just don't have any faith in this plant staying in Indianapolis".

There was a lot of fuss about President Donald Trump's "deal" to save American jobs at the Carrier manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The highly publicized deal, which protected about 730 manufacturing jobs, abruptly reversed the plan Carrier announced in February 2016 to move its factory to Mexico and eliminate almost 1,400 jobs.

"This week, approximately 300 employees will leave Carrier as part of the previously announced plan to relocate fan coil manufacturing production lines", Carrier said in a statement in July.

The company said in a statement that it had originally planned to lay off 275 employees on December 22, but chose to reduce the size of the layoff and delay the timing because of voluntary employee attrition.

Carrier confirmed that more than 1,100 jobs would remain at the Indianapolis facility, which is in keeping with the company's 2016 agreement. January 11 is the final separation date for employees impacted by the fan coil manufacturing transition.

The latest move of lay-offs has once again triggered criticism as the president has touted on numerous occasions to bring jobs back to the United States.

Since then, however, Carrier has laid off hundreds of employees - and Fox News reports that the company is planning to lay off hundreds more workers early next year.

Workers at the plant put the situation a little more bluntly.

At the time, Trump crowed, "They're going to have a great Christmas".

Shortly after his election victory in November that year, Trump claimed he was working with Carrier to keep those jobs in the United States.

As part of the deal with Trump to limit outsourcing, United Technologies said it would invest $16.0 million in the plant-an investment Trump said would add jobs. "It's not gonna happen". "And by the way, that number is going to go up very substantially as they expand this area".
