Flyers Back In Action Tonight To Host Blackhawks”

Brian Elliott made 38 saves for the Flyers, who avenged last Wednesday's 3-0 loss at Chicago while beating the Blackhawks for the 14th straight time in Philadelphia during the regular season.

The Flyers top line dominated the action, factoring into all three goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Their last loss, ironically, came 21-years ago to this day - November 9, 1996... Giroux is putting together a remarkable comeback season so far. With the primary assist, Gostisbehere reached 100 points for his career, the 25th Flyers defenseman and fastest among them to reach the feat. "As a line, we're pretty confident we can do that". "If you want to call it a negative feeling or a negative phase of the season, we've just got to try to create that positive feeling in our locker room and just go out there and play loose and say, 'Hey, if we've hit rock bottom, it can't get any worse'". For sure, they're top guys in the league. "Tonight, we did a good job".

"There's still lots of hockey to be played", said Blackhawks left winger Brandon Saad, who was stopped on two excellent scoring chances and has gone 10 games without a goal.

Minutes later, Connor Murphy scored to break up the shutout. Later in the first, the Flyers captain then made a great play getting the puck to Shayne Gostisbehere, who then threaded a cross-ice pass to Jakub Voracek who buried it past Crawford to make it 2-0. Murphy's father, Gord, is a Flyers assistant and watched the goal from the bench. It was to little avail, though, and the Blackhawks now have three goals in their last three games.

Sean Couturier scored four minutes into the second period to complete the line's contribution to the game and the Flyers special teams came up big with a 5-on-3 shorthanded penalty kill at the end of the frame to keep it a two-goal game.

Chicago got on the board with 3:47 remaining in the second when Murphy scored on a rebound from the left circle.

The Flyers, playing with pep in their step after four days off, took a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals in a strong opening 20 minutes.

Giroux opened the scoring five minutes in by firing a one-timer from the slot past Corey Crawford.

Claude Giroux scored on a one-timer in the first period. Radko Gudas returned to the lineup for the first time since departing the last game against Chicago on November 1. Flyers rookie Nolan Patrick missed his seventh consecutive game with an upper-body injury, but did skate on his own during the morning skate. However, that didn't stop Philadelphia from hanging onto the lead and winning the game. The Blackhawks finish their two-game road trip Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes, then return home for games against the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers.
