Greg Robinson Released After Less Than 1 Season with Lions

The Detroit Lions have released former National Football League 2nd-overall draft pick, tackle Greg Robinson.

Then Robinson suffered an ankle injury that kept him out the last two weeks, forcing the Lions to play their third offensive tackle.

Pro Football Focus now ranks Robinson as the No. 72 offensive tackle in the NFL among players who have played enough snaps to qualify in 2017.

With Mihalik performing well and both Taylor Decker and Corey Robinson eligible to return as early as this week, the Lions saw no value in keeping Greg Robinson around.

Decker is close to rejoining the Lions, according to coach Jim Caldwell, who said Decker is progressing and will be active on Sunday against the Browns. Detroit responded by swapping a sixth-round pick for Robinson, although that was nothing short of a disaster.

Now with an open roster spot, it seems the writing could be on the wall.

Robinson was drafted to be the Rams' franchise left tackle, but has been unable to find his footing since entering the league.

The Lions are still responsible for the remaining $1.56 million of Robinson's $3.32 million base salary for this season.

Per Meinke, Decker could return from the shoulder injury that has sidelined him as soon as this week. So we got another day today and we'll see.

Want your voice heard? Matthew Stafford was under near-constant pressure but has been sacked just three times over the last two games after being sacked 17 times in the three games before that. The return of Decker will be an obvious upgrade while Graham Glasgow has shown good improvement in his second season to go along with the free agent additions of Lang and right tackle Rick Wagner.
