Gusty winds cause thousands of outages across Maine”

The strong winds that have accompanied an arctic front Friday morning, November 10 have also led to almost 25,000 outages in Central Maine Power's coverage area.

Wind gusts of 40 miles per hour could knock down weakened trees and limbs, causing outages.

The wind has knocked down poles on Cribstone Bridge in Harpswell.

The latest information from CMP at 11:30 a.m. was that outages in Knox County were down to 1,148 homes and businesses.

At least 22,000 customers in central and southern Maine lost their electricity on a gusty Friday morning, according to Central Maine Power Co.

CMP said outages won't be almost as widespread as the October 30 windstorm. Rice says line workers are out trying to restore power.

The outages come more than a week after a powerful storm knocked out power to almost 500,000 customers.

Cleanup continues from the October 30 storm. All CMP customers had their electricity restored from that storm by Wednesday of this week, Rice said.
